Is Technology A Boon Or A Bane?

“Technology… is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other.” – C.P. Snow, New York Times, 15 March 1971

In ancient days people didn’t know anything about technology. However, the current generation not only knows about technology but also knows the usage of technology. Even children began learning quickly and using it productively. The influence of technology has become so strong that people cannot survive without technology. Due to the growing literacy levels most of the people update themselves technologically to stay ahead of others. Technology includes from pin to plane. People use technology the moment they wake up from bed through their alarm clock to till they sleep by watching television.

Pros and Cons
Technology is both a boon and a bane and it all depends on how people make use of it. It brought several comforts as well as complications to mankind. Internet has revolutionized and made the world small by integrating entire mankind as one. People are used to technology and are in no position to get away with it. These are the pros of technology. However, it brought several complications such as disease and health hazards. Man has become lazy due to technology resulting into neglect of health. People got into rat race and started getting pressures. When technology is used properly it is a pleasure and when it is used improperly it becomes a pressure. Hence, everything depends on man how he takes and uses it.

Man proved himself as superior to animals through his intelligence and reason. He has proved that everything is possible through his imagination and innovation. He kept updating and inventing new technology thus adding value to himself. For instance, the current iPod was developed by Steve Jobs who is synonymous with innovation in the world. He made it happen by working hard constantly for four hours a week, 50 weeks a year for 12 years, brainstorming with software, hardware and various design experts to come up with the most brilliant ideas. It is amazing example of man’s quest for knowledge and innovation to make things simpler and life better. To conclude, everything depends on how people make use of it and so is the case of technology. Hence, the ball is in your court whether you want to use technology for constructive activities or for destructive activities.
